The Occupational Therapist Directory
To find an occupational therapist in your community, BCSOT is proud to offer the Online Directory OT Search.
The Directory is a useful tool for the public, primary health providers and rehabilitation teams who seek information from occupational therapists or information to make appropriate referrals.
Who's included in the Directory?
BCSOT members are included in the Directory. Workplaces listed are those of participating BCSOT members and may therefore not include every business or institution that provides occupational therapy services in British Columbia.
Most members choose to list an area of professional practice that indicates experience or preferred areas of work, although some members may have special training or credentials. Many members choose to list simply as "Generalist."
Professional areas of practice include a range of skills. Those who choose "Paediatrics" and "Geriatrics" may deal with a wide range of orthopaedic, ergonomic, mental health and neurological issues for their respective populations. Those who select "Ergonomics" may assess workplace or home environments.
"Neurology" encompasses acquired and traumatic brain injuries as well as brain disease, stroke or related neurological conditions. "Mental Health" includes eating disorders, personality disorders, schizophrenia, depression and mood-related disorders.
Member listings include languages spoken in addition to English.
How much does occupational therapy cost?
Some occupational therapy services are offered by acute care outpatient clinics, the public school system, early childhood development centres and community health services operated by health authorities. Usually the cost of these services is covered by the institutions and services. Ask your primary care provider, physician or public health worker what resources may be available to you.
Occupational therapy is also available in the private sector. See Private Practices in the Online Directory OT Search. BCSOT members base their fees on the BCSOT Private Practice Fee Guideline.
If you have any questions about occupational therapy, please contact BCSOT office at info@bcsot.org
Is occupational therapy covered by MSP?
Occupational Therapy is not covered by MSP. Some people receive occupational therapy services while in hospital, or may qualify for care through the local public health unit. People injured in car accidents are covered by ICBC. People injured at work are covered by WorkSafe BC. Some private medical insurance providers cover some occupational therapy services. All occupational therapists in private practice have a good understanding of the assistance that may be available to help their clients pay for their services. Please contact an occupational therapist in your area for assistance.
